When you write I - bii and (G - G#5) does that mean two different lines, bass and treble? Because I am struggling to see how a G#5 is equivalent to a ii chord in G with a flat. Wouldn't it be (Ab C E), versus (G B D#)?

haha the 5/6 argument was so funny. the way i ended up looking at it is that he definitely slides down from the 6 to the 5, but i hear the 6 as the dominant(for lack of a better term) note in that relationship, probably because the 6 is not a chord tone(the lead is actually playing 7 not 6 when he starts the attack interestingly) and the next attack being a 5 kinda swallows up the previous 5. not to mention the 6 is higher, somewhat louder, and sung first. you on the other hand very clearly hear the 5 as the dominant note there, to the point that your past cover of the song doesn't even include the 6. As an aside, i went through various live performances of the song and there's a good mix between people who sing the 5(alex turner!) and people who sing the 6(pacifica!) but julian himself is always careful to do the 6-5 slide. the presence of the 6 adds a lot of character to the section that the 5-5-5 loses imo. interested to hear what you think!
